Very simply put, we smashed the JV meet at Oxnard! The meet had six clubs with well over 600 athletes competing across multiple events. In previous years, we might have one or two athletes make a podium spot for one or two events. The summary below speaks to their willingness to race and our depth as the MG team.
80H - 1st and 3rd
4x100 - 2nd
100 - 1st and 2nd
200 - 1st and won both heats
400 - 1st, 3rd and won both heats
LJ - 1st, 3rd-7th (incredible work, Lauren!)
SP - 2nd
4x400 - 1st (although the field was slim, they raced all-out)
***Additionally, ideal weather and track surface combined with the MGs willingness to race and resulted in 16 PRs!*** If you've watched our practices, you know we aren't volume-heavy and do not emphasize splits and times. We train sprinters with movements that translate to longevity and other sports! What a rebound and nice bonus after last week's emotional meet in tough conditions!
This week's upcoming practice schedule is for Varsity athletes only:
Mon - on the track 5-630
---4x100 training at 5 for Adria, Ireland, Harlan, Malia, Eleanor, Jo
---4x400 run-through / discussion at 6:30 for Jo, Liv, Lily, Asuncion, Ireland and Malia
Tues - on the track 5-630
Thurs - on the track 5-630; 4x100 backup / shakeout session
Field event training will not be during slot/block times but may run according to coach availability and other practice factors. Just be flexible with pits and mats.
Parents of Varsity competitors must volunteer at the meet. Signups below.
Please stay flexible this week as there may be conflicts or changes that are late- breaking (like last week).
The end-of-the-year picnic is May 15th at Dos Vientos Community Park. We'll have MG awards and recognition.
